January 27th- 29th, 2023

Our expert local guides have planned a long weekend full of adventurous activities for all levels. Please see our sample itinerary below to get a feel for what the trip will entail. Offerings are subject to change depending on weather and availability but our goal is to provide action packed days with as many activities as you’d like to participate in with free time to unwind and/or explore the ranch!

Sample itinerary:

Friday:

9am: Group carpool meetup outside of Denver metro (tba)

11am: Check-in and meet and greet over lunch, then head out for a scenic snowshoe hike.

Friday evening: Dinner followed by campfire smore’s, hot chocolate or adult beverages.

Saturday:

Morning: We will split the group for a half day of fat biking or cross country skiing (lesson + guided outing and split based on your experience level)

Fat biking is an exciting sport appropriate for all levels. Imagine the feeling of floating along on white fluffy snow, without worrying about rocks, roots and the more technical elements of traditional mountain biking. Go further and see more during this exhilarating experience!

The Colorado Mountain College and Mineral Belt trail system boasts miles of beginner to advanced trails through a winter wonderland of towering pines and open fields with sweeping views of the surrounding snow capped peaks.

Saturday afternoon/evening:

You will be free to explore the town and grab lunch on your own followed by some exhilarating tubing. We will enjoy a group dinner at the historic Silver Dollar Saloon!

There might be the opportunity to join a ghost + historic tour of Leadville, the Tabor opera house and other noteworthy sites, tba!

Sunday:

We will split the group for a half day of fat biking or cross country skiing (lesson + guided outing and split based on your experience level) before heading back home after an action packed weekend with new friends!

The retreat will officially end at 1pm on Sunday. You will be free to grab lunch in town own your own afterwards.

*If you are traveling from out of state we recommend arriving to Denver on Thursday and either staying in the front range area or driving up to stay on Thursday evening in Leadville. About FREIGHT and our accommodations:

Built in 1884, Leadville’s train depot has been converted to a community gathering space and wedding venue. FREIGHT is situated in the shadow of Mt. Elbert, Colorado’s highest fourteener and within walking distance of downtown Leadville. A passenger train still puffs by the window every afternoon.

The renovations include the build out of 13 tiny home cabins with an exterior of recycled metal and luxury on the inside. Each cabin is named after one of Leadville’s sex workers. Leadville was built by determined individuals experimenting in frontier community, a history of bodies, but usually its the gunslingers, miners, trappers and cowboys who are recognized.

These women were workers with entrepreneurial grit, with the ability to survive in rugged conditions. They were here before us. They lived through the boom and bust of an early mining settlement and carved out an economy for the oldest profession. From the madams who ran parlour houses to the hurdy gurdy girls that frequented saloons and doubled as musicians and performers, we see women who pushed the social fabric and helped shape Leadville.

FREIGHT is a women-led organization and the founders are lovers of history.
